Preparing for your new fitted wardrobes.

At Mirror Image we always take great care to ensure that every furniture installation we undertake is completed as quickly and safely as possible and with the minimum amount of inconvenience to you - without compromising on a high quality finish. To ensure that your installation goes as smoothly as possible, there are a number of things you can do to help our fitters before we arrive.

Due to health and safety reasons our fitters must wear their footwear at all times. Whilst we do bring our own dust sheets with us, any additional sheets you have would be useful in protecting your carpet or flooring from damage. 

During the installation they will also be carrying large panels through your property, so to give them plenty of room to operate we ask that you remove any ornaments, light fittings, pictures and furniture that may cause an obstruction.

Some other queries that often come up are listed below;

Removal of old furniture: Where possible, it is ideal if you can remove any existing wardrobes, drawer sets and beds from the room. This makes the fitters job a lot easier and faster. If you can't remove them for any reason, if you can let us know in advance then we can generally arrange someone to come out and remove them from your room before your fitting date. We can dispose of old furniture, but this does carry an additional fee.

Plug sockets and light switches: Unfortunatley, we are not qualified to undertake any electrical work. Therefore we would always recommend that where it is necessary to move a socket, this is carried out in advance of installing your furniture. Our team can recommend a number of qualified electricians to carry out this work should you require one. We can, however, cut spaces in the wardrobe to gain access to plug sockets if you prefer.

Carpets and flooring: To ensure a precise and accurate finish to your installation, it is best to remove or roll back existing carpet from the area of the installation. If you are planning to fit a new carpet in the room, we would advise that this is done after the installation of your new furniture. This is so your new wardrobe will not drop after a period of time. Whilst our fitters will not be able to cut, remove or install any carpet, we can recommend a number of experienced carpet fitters to carry out this work for you.

Underfloor pipes and heating:  If your room is fitted with underfloor heating or any pipes run through the area where your wardrobe is going please let us know in advance.

What is best for me and my wardrobe? Hinged Doors or Sliding Doors?

Choosing your bespoke wardrobe can be a daunting task. You will be amazed of the vast number of choices available for you to choose from. Often, visitors to our showroom in Rotherham are surprised at the different styles and finishes that can be chosen. 

But before we discuss wood and glass colours or interior designs, we always establish which type of door will be the most appropriate for each individual customer. Both will add elegance, style and a distinct character to your room; but offer different benefits.

Hinged Door Wardrobes

• Smaller space for the actual wardrobe is required, normally around 570mm for the depth (but the opening of the doors must be considered)
• A wide range of handles to choose from. Each handle gives a different feel to your wardrobes, from chunky bar handles, to elegant crystal knobs.
• Unlike sliding door wardrobes, where in most instances half of the space will be concealed at any one time, all of the doors on a hinged wardrobe can be opened at once to allow for better access.

Sliding Door Wardrobes

• You don't need to worry about additional opening space for sliding doors.
• Sliding doors can brighten up a dark room with the amount of mirror or coloured glass on show.
• Unlike hinged doors, sliding doors don't require plinths or infills to provide clearance from the floor and ceiling. You will therefore benefit from additional storage space.
• With the addition of mid-rails, you can create a truly unique door.

So to answer the question, both types of wardrobe offer a range of benefits and their suitability will depend entirely on your individual requirements or the limitations of your room.
